About Us

This is the inaugural season for The Saugeen Valley Folk Society (SVFS), a new acoustic music organization based at the Idyll Cafe in Markdale, Ontario. In additon to providing an opportunity for fledgling musicians to perform on the open stage, the SVFS will provide a venue for more established local and regional performers through a monthly concert series from September through May (except March).

The SVFS definition of folk is a liberal one, including not only traditional and celtic music, but contemporary singer-songwriter, alternative acoustic, and worldbeat as well. The Idyll Cafe is a small, intimate, non-smoking venue, with seating for approximately 30. Due to the small size of the room, there is no need for a sound system. The Cafe is well known for its excellent baked goods which, along with coffee and tea, will be made available on folk club nights.
